CHELSEA want to play sexy football this season, but the most important thing is to win games, according to Petr Cech.
The Blues have been widely criticised for the manner in which they won the Champions League last season, with supposedly negative football.
Few players or supporters seemed concerned about that, when the European Cup was lifted on May 19, but Roman Abramovich is said to be keen on a more flowing, attacking style.
Cech says that would be good for all to see, but there is one thing more important than style of play.
“I think we will want to play nice football,” he said, “but I think we will want to win games. That's for sure.
“I think if we can be attractive that's great. If you can't and you have to win dirty, that's how we always knew how to win games.”
Cech conceded that last season's performance in reaching sixth in the Premier League was not up to scratch, but harked back to two seasons previous and one of the club's greatest successes.
He added: “When we could play well, when we won the double and scored the most goals ever in the Premier League, we were very entertaining.
“But there were games where the opponent was very tough, and we didn't have a great game, so we needed to manage to adapt and win the games any way.
“Which I think was the biggest issue we had last season. We could say that we were passing the ball well, that we had a lot of possession, but we didn't win games – which led to the problems that we had in the league.”
