MARK Hughes cast further doubt on Joey Barton's future tonight after the midfielder wasn't issued with a squad number for the forthcoming campaign.
The disgraced QPR captain was hit with a 12-match ban by the FA and fined six weeks' wages by his club following his violent conduct at Manchester City on the final day of the season.
Barton was also left out of Rangers' pre-season tours to Asia and Germany, and instead spent time training with League Two outfit Fleetwood Town.
The 29-year-old has been linked with a loan switch to a string of clubs, but it is understood the Football League would block a move to one of its members while he serves his suspension.
And Barton, who has three years remaining on his lucrative deal at Loftus Road, now faces an uncertain future after he was left off QPR's squad list revealed this evening.
DJ Campbell, Jay Bothroyd, Luke Young, Tommy Smith and Rob Hulse were also given the clearest indication yet that they are surplus to requirements in W12.
