ROBERTO Di Matteo has admitted Chelsea are short of strikers following the summer departures of Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou – and that his midfielders will need to chip in with goals.
As things stand, the Blues will be reliant on Fernando Torres and Daniel Sturridge to provide the ammunition, leaving them well short of the options enjoyed by the two Manchester clubs, for instance.
The transfer window does not close until the end of the month, so there is still time for the Blues boss to be given greater scope, but not for the time being.
“I'm happy with what we have now,” the Italian said, “but we are probably a little bit light in the attacking areas.
“We have two very good strikers who can score goals, but we need the other players to chip in – Mata, Oscar, Hazard. Lampard always scores goals. Ramires at the end of last season scored some important goals, so I think we need to diversify.”
