ROMAN Abramovich is set to continue his summer spending spree by beating Tottenham to the signature of Brazilian wonderkid Oscar, according to the player’s agent.
The billionaire Chelsea owner is determined to restore the Blues to the summit of English football after finally seeing his side conquer Europe last May.
Manchester City finished 25 points clear of the Champions League winners in the Premier League last season and Abramovich wants to close the gap next term.
He has rewarded boss Roberto Di Matteo for his success with a new contract at Stamford Bridge and sanctioned big money moves already this summer.
Marko Marin and Eden Hazard have arrived for a combined total in excess of £40million it appears 20-year-old Internacional starlet Oscar could be joining them.
One of Oscar's agents, Carlos Meinberg Neto, has confirmed Chelsea have tabled a bid for the youngster and expects the playmaker to chose the Blues over Spurs.
"Chelsea did offer 25 million euros, but there is still no agreement between the clubs, that will probably happen within the next days," Neto told Terra.
"Giuliano Bertolucci (Oscar's main agent) will travel to England to finalise the remaining details. Tottenham also made an offer, but he should accept Chelsea's offer as there is more exposure there."
Former Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas was hoping to add the Brazilian to his midfield as it appears increasingly likely that Luka Modric will move abroad.
The player himself has distanced himself from a move and Internacional have denied offers have been received for the player.
Oscar, whose full name is Oscar dos Santos Emboaba Junior, can play as an attacking midfielder or a forward and possesses a keen eye for goal.
The potential arrival of Oscar will see him link up with fellow countrymen Ramires, David Luiz and Lucas Piazon as a strong base of South American talent emerges.
And there could yet be more Samba feet dancing down the flanks at the Bridge next term as Chelsea are still hopeful of capturing Inter Milan right-back Maicon.
Real Madrid were interested in the full-back but are now understood to have pulled out of the running. Marseille’s Cesar Azpilicueta is an alternative option.
