FULHAM boss Martin Jol admits he is sweating over the fitness of Bryan Ruiz – again.
The forward was left out of the 2-1 over Blackpool in the FA Cup replay last night, and not just because the manager wanted to rotate the squad.
He also claimed star turn Dimitar Berbatov was feeling the effects of a hectic Christmas, and decided to leave him out of the match that went to extra time before Brede Hangeland’s header won it at the death.
Jol said: “Berbatov felt tired – he’s played a lot of games and Ruiz had a little bit of a problem with his hamstring again.
“So I had to rest those two and play Mladen Petric and Hugo Rodallega up front.”
Kieran Richardson was according to Jol, a one in 10 chance that came good when the winger-cum-defender earned extra time with the very last kick of the regulation 90 minutes.
That was exactly what I had in mind when I put him on but nine out of 10 times it won’t come off,” the manager said.
“He’s a quality player so I’m pleased for him. He was one of our best players on Saturday when he played at left-back against Wigan Athletic but I wanted to rest him tonight. I knew I could call on him if I needed him, though.”
