Youth club leaders' skydive for minibus

YOUTH club leaders are jumping 15,000 feet from a moving plane to raise £10,000 for a minibus.Nick Sazeides and four other thrill-seeking staff from The Sulgrave Club, Shepherd’s Bush will take the plunge on May 31 in Wiltshire.A minibus of their own will help save the club £50 a day on transport costs so they can take its 800 members on day-trips and longer holiday breaks throughout the summer holidays.Up to 70 youngsters aged eight to 19 attend activities including cooking, football and table tennis each night from Tuesday to Saturday.Mr Sazeides said: “In this area, we’re the sole youth provision within a mile and a half of the club.“We hope to use the money to buy our first minibus. The idea is during the school holidays we can offer a holiday programme.“Instead of hiring a minibus at £50 a day on top of mileage and fuel, it will save a lot of money for us and keep money down on trips. It’s notoriously difficult to raise money for transport costs. “During the holidays we can go out everyday doing swimming, ice skating and cinema trips and for the older ones paintballing and water-skiing. We also go on trips to the south coast to Bournemouth and an education centre in the New Forest.”Old and new members are showing their support for the club which has become an institution in Goldhawk Road since 1926.Former member and Bristol City football player, Albert Adomah wrote a cheque for £500 for the good cause.Mr Sazeides said: “We used to joke that when Albert made it to the Premier League, we’d be expecting a donation. He’s not quite there, but we’re grateful for his support.”Daily activities cost £1 to £1.50 a child a day. For more information and to donate, visit www.thesulgraveclub.org.uk. Read
