A ‘friends’ group has hit out at plans to use part of Normand Park, Lillie Road, as a docking station for Boris Bikes.

They want TfL to install it at the park entrance rather than on the boardwalk.

Treasurer Lesley Thomas said: “We put a lot of thought into designing the boardwalk so we could have loads of activities and performances. Only last month we had Korean dance and music and it’s a great vibrant space enjoyed by the whole community. It would be a travesty if it was taken from us.”

A TfL spokesman said: “Normand Park was suggested as a potential location for Barclays Cycle Hire by local residents as part of a Hammersmith & Fulham transport consultation last autumn. Since then we have been investigating a variety of options for a docking station in the vicinity.

“We always seek to ensure minimal impact on the local environment when we install a docking station, and local people will be consulted before any final decision.”
