Hammersmith gun victim still serious

A man remains in a serious condition after being shot in Goldhawk Road, Hammersmith.

Police were called at about 4am on Sunday after a neighbour heard gun shots. The 21-year-old victim was found outside the Total petrol station and taken to a west London hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

Officers from Trident, the arm of the Metropolitan police which investigates gun crime between black people, are investigating.

Earlier on Saturday gun shots were heard in nearby Conningham Road. Police found bullet casings but are as yet not linking the two incidents.

Neighbours in Goldhawk Road were shocked events , saying a shooting was unprecedented in the area.

Pensioner Antonia Salisbury was woken up by the shots. She said: "I heard a single cracking sound and at first thought it was a car.

"When I heard a second sound I went to have a look out of the window but when I saw a couple of cars going past without stopping I thought everything was okay – I didn't see sign of anything wrong.

"A neighbour told me the in the morning what had happened and I was really shocked. I've lived here 40 years and haven't heard of anything like this."
