Pimlico pub keeps the punters happy

Our weekly column in which reporters grill the people who run our favourite locals. THIS WEEK>> The Queens Arms, 11 Warwick Way, Pimlico SW1V 1QT. Call 020 7843 3313.

BREWERY?
We’re not attached to a brewery because we’re part of the chain – Food and Fuel – so they handle our supplies.

MANAGER?
Chris Gerard.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AT THE PUB?
I’ve been the manager since January.

PUBS ARE STRUGGLING IN THE ECONOMIC DOWNTURN. HOW ARE YOU COPING?
We haven’t really felt the effects, we’re very full. The weekend of the Queen’s jubilee was great. Hopefully with the Olympics coming up that won’t be changing anytime soon.

WHAT’S YOUR BEST-SELLING BEVERAGE?
Amstel – it’s a light beer from Holland, and both women and men order it a lot.

HOW MUCH IS THE PRICE OF A PINT?
Around £4.

WHAT MAKES YOU UNIQUE?
Details – we’re committed to getting the small things right, atmosphere, food and drinks.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR AVERAGE CUSTOMER?
Mid to late 20s, and they know what they want. They expect good quality and aren't afraid to demand it.

WHAT SORT OF FOOD DO YOU SERVE?
Traditional English gastro pub food. Haddock and chips, burgers, roast beef and lamb as well as soups and salads.

HISTORICAL FACT ABOUT THE PUB?
Before we became part of Food and Fuel we were the very first pub to open under the Slug and Lettuce chain.
